Privacy policy
How Zafar Foundation collects, uses and protects personal information when you use this website or support our work.
Privacy policy
Who we are
Zafar Foundation is a charitable incorporated organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1215863). Our registered office is 94 Glen Road, Sheffield, S7 1RB, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@zafarfoundation.org.uk or on 07940 040010.
The information we collect
We collect personal information only when you give it to us, for example when you:
- make a donation (name, email address, donation amount, and, if you add Gift Aid, your home address and postcode);
- sign up to our newsletter (email address);
- send us a message through the contact form, by email or by phone (name, contact details and whatever you tell us);
- register your interest in volunteering, fundraising or partnering with us (name, contact details and how you would like to help).
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- process donations, send receipts and keep the records the law requires;
- claim Gift Aid from HM Revenue and Customs where you have asked us to;
- reply to messages and requests;
- send newsletter updates you have asked for, which you can stop at any time using the link in every email or by contacting us;
- keep our records accurate and our website secure.
Our legal bases
Under UK data protection law we rely on: the performance of a contract or steps you ask us to take (processing a donation); our legal obligations (charity accounting and Gift Aid records); your consent (newsletter updates); and our legitimate interests in running the charity and responding to enquiries, which we balance against your rights.
Payments
When online payments are enabled, card payments are processed by Stripe, a regulated payment provider. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are not stored on our website or by us. Stripe's own privacy policy explains how it handles payment data.
How long we keep it
Donation and Gift Aid records are kept for at least six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as HM Revenue and Customs requires. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Messages and enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter;
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information.

We will publish any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
